We are looking for tutors who are…
- Qualified with QTS and currently working (or very recently working) in the UK education system
- Experienced — a minimum of five years in UK classrooms
- Experienced teachers with strong subject knowledge — whether that is through a leadership role, a TLR, or simply years of excellent classroom practice
- Able to deliver exceptional, flexible sessions without rigid pre-written lesson plans
- Comfortable responding dynamically to student questions, gaps, and misconceptions in the moment
- Confident working online with small groups of up to five students
- Holders of a current DBS certificate
- Self-employed and happy to work on a freelance basis
We are not able to work with tutors who are…
- University students or recent graduates without classroom experience
- Without Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Below five years of teaching experience in UK schools
- Reliant on scripted lesson plans and unable to adapt in the session
- Not currently active or recently active in the UK education system
- Looking for employed, contracted work rather than self-employed freelancing

Qualified and credentialled
All tutors hold QTS and a current DBS certificate, and are working — or have very recently worked — in the UK education system. This is non-negotiable. It keeps our quality consistent and gives parents genuine confidence.
Experienced and knowledgeable
We look for teachers who genuinely know their subject inside out — whether that comes from a leadership role such as head of department or lead practitioner, a TLR for curriculum responsibility, or simply years of excellent, committed classroom teaching. What matters is depth of knowledge and quality of delivery, not job title.
Adaptive, not scripted
Our students need tutors who can respond in the moment — not deliver a pre-planned script. The best sessions happen when a tutor hears a question, recognises the gap, and addresses it immediately with clarity and confidence.

Sessions on weekday evenings
Most sessions run on weekday evenings, with start times between 17:00 and 20:00. Each session is one hour long. Weekend sessions can be arranged where needed and where you have availability.
Small groups, maximum five students
We do not do one-to-one tuition. Sessions run with small groups of up to five students, which means you can deliver the kind of responsive, discussion-based teaching that works best at this level.
Fully online delivery
All sessions are delivered online. You need a reliable internet connection, a suitable quiet space, and the confidence to lead an engaging session through a screen — something most experienced teachers adapt to quickly.
You are self-employed
Tutors work with us as self-employed freelancers. You choose the sessions you take on and are paid per session. There is no contracted minimum, but we do expect reliability and consistency once sessions are agreed.
An interview — including an off-the-cuff explanation
Before anyone joins the team, we hold a short interview. As part of this, we will ask you to explain a concept to us on the spot — without preparation. This is not a trick; it is the most reliable way for us to see the depth of your subject knowledge and your ability to communicate clearly under real conditions. If you are a strong teacher, this will feel entirely natural. It is exactly what you do in the classroom every day.
We pay well, because we expect a great deal.
Our tutors are senior professionals. We pay accordingly. If you would like to know the session rate before applying, please include that question in your application and we will respond directly.
Competitive session rate
We pay a rate that reflects the seniority and expertise we expect. Details are shared directly with shortlisted applicants.
Flexible scheduling
You decide how many sessions to take on. Evenings from 17:00–20:00 work around your school day with no conflict.
Freelance freedom
You are self-employed. No term-time contracts, no management structures to navigate — just high-quality teaching and straightforward payment.
Answers before you apply.
Do I need a DBS certificate?
Yes. All tutors must hold a current DBS certificate before working with us. If yours has lapsed or you do not yet have one, you would need to obtain an updated check before joining the team.
What does the interview involve?
We hold a short interview with every applicant who meets our criteria. As part of this, we will ask you to explain a concept to us off the cuff — without any preparation. We do this because it is the clearest way to assess both subject knowledge and the ability to communicate under real conditions. For experienced teachers this should feel straightforward; it mirrors exactly what happens in a classroom every day.
Do I need to be currently teaching to apply?
Yes. We work exclusively with teachers who are currently working in the UK education system, or who have done so very recently. This is non-negotiable — it keeps our standard of delivery exceptionally high.
I am not a head of department or senior leader. Can I still apply?
Yes. We do not require a specific job title. What we are looking for is genuine depth of subject knowledge and at least five years of strong classroom experience. Many of our tutors hold TLRs for curriculum or have other responsibilities that demonstrate their expertise — but equally, an exceptional classroom teacher with no formal responsibility is absolutely welcome to apply. I am a university student or a graduate without QTS. Can I apply?
No. We are not able to work with tutors who do not hold QTS and who have not taught in UK schools. This is a firm part of our quality standard — not a guideline.
When do sessions take place?
Most sessions run on weekday evenings, with start times between 17:00 and 20:00. Sessions are one hour long. Weekend availability can be arranged where needed, but weekday evenings are the primary time.
Do you provide lesson plans or resources?
We do not deliver scripted lesson plans for tutors to follow. We expect our tutors to use their professional expertise and subject knowledge to lead sessions responsively. If you need detailed pre-written plans to teach effectively, this is unlikely to be the right fit.
Will I be employed by Bright Path Learning?
No. All tutors work with us as self-employed freelancers. You are responsible for your own tax and National Insurance. We pay per session on agreed terms.
