What We Cover in A Level Biology

Full syllabus support for AQA, OCR and Edexcel A Level Biology — from Year 12 foundations through to Year 13 synoptic exam preparation.

01

Biological Molecules

Carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, enzymes, nucleic acids and water — the molecular foundations students need to nail before everything else builds on them.

02

Cells & Cell Biology

Cell structure, transport across membranes, cell division, immunity, and the techniques used to study them — including required practical skills.

03

Organisms & Their Environment

Exchange surfaces, mass transport in animals and plants, and how organisms respond to changes in their environment.

04

Genetics & Variation

DNA, RNA, protein synthesis, inheritance, variation, evolution and speciation — one of the most exam-question-heavy areas at A Level.

05

Energy & Ecosystems

Photosynthesis, respiration, energy transfer, nutrient cycles and population dynamics — tying biochemistry into whole-system thinking.

06

Control Systems & Gene Expression

Homeostasis, the nervous and endocrine systems, gene regulation, gene technology and the ethical questions students need to discuss in exams.

07

Required Practicals

Walkthroughs of every required practical — methods, results, common exam questions, and the experimental design points examiners look for.

08

Exam Technique

Long-answer structure, command word interpretation, mark scheme breakdown, and timed practice on past paper questions.

09

Synoptic & Application

The unfamiliar-context questions that catch students out — how to read the stimulus, link topics, and apply biology to scenarios you haven’t seen before.

What Parents & Students Say

Genuine reviews from families who’ve worked with our A Level science tutors.

★★★★★

“Ollie has been tutoring my daughter in A level biology since September 2023, and I couldn’t be more pleased with his work. His lessons are always well structured, and he has quickly become one of my daughter’s favourite tutors. Thanks to Ollie’s excellent teaching, my daughter achieved an A grade at the end of year 12.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the things parents most often ask before booking.

Which exam boards do you cover for A Level Biology?
We support AQA, OCR and Edexcel A Level Biology. When you enquire, just let us know which exam board your child is sitting and we’ll match them with a tutor who teaches that specification.
Are sessions suitable for both Year 12 and Year 13 students?
Yes. We run separate groups for Year 12 (AS-level content and foundations) and Year 13 (A2 content, synoptic preparation and exam practice), so students are always learning alongside peers at the same stage.
How do the online sessions actually work?
Sessions run via Google Classroom on a regular weekly slot. Students join from home using a laptop or tablet, work through content with the tutor and the other students in the group, and can ask questions throughout. Sessions are recorded so they can be revisited if needed.
What if my child misses a session?
Just let us know. Every session is recorded, so we can share the recording on request — meaning a missed week never sets your child back.
Do you cover the required practicals?
Absolutely. The required practicals are heavily examined and we work through each one in detail — including the methods, results, common exam-question wording, and the experimental design points examiners look for.
How does payment work?
A Level Biology sessions are £35 each, and payment is made half-termly so you’re never tied into a long contract. The first taster session is free.
Is the free taster session a real lesson?
Yes — it’s a full 60-minute session where your child joins the group, meets the tutor, and gets a genuine feel for how we teach. There’s no obligation to continue afterwards.
Can we join part-way through the year?
Of course — there’s no “wrong” time to start. We welcome students at any point in the academic year, whether you’re looking for steady support from September, joining us in the spring term, or coming on board for focused exam preparation closer to summer. Your tutor will quickly get a feel for where your child is and tailor sessions accordingly.
