What We Cover in A Level Chemistry

Full syllabus support for AQA, OCR and Edexcel A Level Chemistry — from Year 12 foundations through to Year 13 synoptic exam preparation. For an overview of the curriculum, you can also visit BBC Bitesize A Level study resources.

01

Atomic Structure & Bonding

Electron configuration, ionisation energies, shapes of molecules, intermolecular forces — the foundations every other topic builds on.

02

Energetics & Thermodynamics

Enthalpy changes, Hess’s law, Born-Haber cycles, entropy and free energy — making sense of the calculations students often dread.

03

Kinetics & Equilibria

Rate equations, rate-determining steps, Kc and Kp, Le Chatelier’s principle, and the maths of equilibrium calculations.

04

Acids, Bases & Redox

pH calculations, buffers, titration curves, electrode potentials, electrochemical cells — another high-mark calculation-heavy area.

05

Organic Chemistry

Functional groups, reaction mechanisms, isomerism, synthesis routes — with structured practice on drawing mechanisms students get marks for.

06

Inorganic & Transition Metals

Periodic trends, group chemistry, transition metal complexes, colour and catalysis — lots to memorise, taught with the patterns that make it easier.

07

Analysis & Spectroscopy

Mass spectrometry, infrared, NMR and chromatography — how to read spectra and identify unknown compounds with confidence.

08

Required Practicals

Walkthroughs of every required practical — methods, apparatus, sources of error, and the experimental design points examiners look for.

09

Exam Technique & Synoptic

Multi-step calculation questions, command-word breakdowns, mechanism marking, and the unfamiliar-context questions that trip students up.

Frequently Asked Questions About A Level Chemistry Tuition

Quick answers to the things parents most often ask before booking.

Which exam boards do you cover for A Level Chemistry?
We support AQA, OCR and Edexcel A Level Chemistry. When you enquire, just let us know which exam board your child is sitting and we’ll match them with a tutor who teaches that specification. For wider career and university information, the Royal Society of Chemistry is a useful resource for A Level Chemistry students considering chemistry-related degrees.
Are sessions suitable for both Year 12 and Year 13 students?
Yes. We run separate groups for Year 12 (AS-level content and foundations) and Year 13 (A2 content, synoptic preparation and exam practice), so students are always learning alongside peers at the same stage.
My child finds the maths in Chemistry tough. Can you help?
Absolutely — this is one of the most common reasons families come to us. A significant portion of A Level Chemistry marks come from calculations (moles, energetics, equilibria, pH, rate equations) and our tutors break these down step by step until your child is confident with the methods examiners expect.
How do the online sessions actually work?
Sessions run via Google Classroom on a regular weekly slot. Students join from home using a laptop or tablet, work through content with the tutor and the other students in the group, and can ask questions throughout. Sessions are recorded so they can be revisited if needed.
Do you cover the required practicals?
Yes — the required practicals are heavily examined and we work through each one in detail, including the apparatus, methods, sources of error, and the experimental design points examiners reward.
What if my child misses a session?
Just let us know. Every session is recorded, so we can share the recording on request — meaning a missed week never sets your child back.
How does payment work?
A Level Chemistry sessions are £35 each, and payment is made half-termly so you’re never tied into a long contract. The first taster session is free.
Is the free taster session a real lesson?
Yes — it’s a full 60-minute session where your child joins the group, meets the tutor, and gets a genuine feel for how we teach. There’s no obligation to continue afterwards.
Can we join part-way through the year?
Of course — there’s no “wrong” time to start. We welcome students at any point in the academic year, whether you’re looking for steady support from September, joining us in the spring term, or coming on board for focused exam preparation closer to summer. Your tutor will quickly get a feel for where your child is and tailor sessions accordingly.
