What We Cover in A Level Physics

Full syllabus support for AQA, OCR and Edexcel A Level Physics — from Year 12 foundations through to Year 13 synoptic exam preparation. For an overview of the curriculum, you can also visit BBC Bitesize A Level study resources.

01

Mechanics & Materials

Forces, motion, momentum, work and energy, plus the properties of materials — the foundation Year 12 builds the rest of the course on.

02

Waves & Optics

Wave behaviour, superposition, stationary waves, diffraction, refraction and the principles behind optical instruments.

03

Electricity & Circuits

Current, voltage, resistance, circuit analysis, EMF and internal resistance — with structured practice on the calculation questions students lose marks on.

04

Further Mechanics

Circular motion, simple harmonic motion, oscillations and resonance — one of the most graph-heavy and conceptually demanding areas of the spec.

05

Fields

Gravitational, electric and magnetic fields side by side — understanding the parallels between them is the key to top-band marks here.

06

Thermal Physics

Internal energy, ideal gases, kinetic theory and thermodynamics — covered with the maths and the physical intuition working together.

07

Nuclear & Particle Physics

Atomic structure, radioactivity, nuclear reactions, fundamental particles and the standard model — with the definitions examiners expect verbatim.

08

Required Practicals

Walkthroughs of every required practical — apparatus, methods, sources of error, graph analysis, and the experimental design points examiners reward.

09

Maths Skills & Exam Technique

Logarithms, exponentials, trigonometry, error analysis and unit conversion — plus structured exam practice on the calculation and extended-response questions.

What Families Say About Our A Level Physics Lessons

Genuine reviews from families who’ve come to us for A Level Physics tuition and other A Level sciences.

★★★★★

“I highly recommend Steve for A level physics tutoring. My son has been tutored over the last year and will continue until his exams in year 13. Each tutor session seems to build his confidence and determination to study and revise. As parents we can see how much he has improved and most importantly enjoys studying physics.”

Sarah KealyGoogle · A Level Physics parent
★★★★★

“I do A-Level Physics and my tutor at Bright Path Learning is friendly and understanding — they provide excellent explanations to concepts which I don’t understand and use logical, step-by-step reasoning to ensure my understanding in a topic. Additionally, they always make sure that I feel the session has helped me and that I have understood the lesson’s content.”

Hannah SiddiqiTrustpilot · A Level Physics student
★★★★★

“Very helpful in my sessions and has really helped me to develop my knowledge of physics while also giving me great advice on revision outside of session.”

Alfie KealyTrustpilot · Physics student
★★★★★

“Stephen was great with both my children in helping them achieve the results they needed with both their GCSEs and A Levels. Friendly, but professional attitude with them and the most important factor was they listened to him and engaged.”

Frequently Asked Questions About A Level Physics Tuition

Quick answers to the things parents most often ask before booking.

Which exam boards do you cover for A Level Physics?
We support AQA, OCR and Edexcel A Level Physics. When you enquire, just let us know which exam board your child is sitting and we’ll match them with a tutor who teaches that specification. For wider career and university information, the Institute of Physics is a useful resource for A Level Physics students considering physics or engineering degrees.
Are sessions suitable for both Year 12 and Year 13 students?
Yes. We run separate groups for Year 12 (AS-level content and foundations) and Year 13 (A2 content, synoptic preparation and exam practice), so students are always learning alongside peers at the same stage.
My child is finding the maths in Physics tough. Can you help?
Absolutely — this is one of the most common reasons families come to us. A Level Physics is heavy on logarithms, exponentials, trigonometry, error analysis and graph work. Our tutors break the maths down step by step and connect it back to the physics, so your child stops seeing them as two separate subjects.
Does my child need to be studying A Level Maths to take A Level Physics tuition?
Not at all. A Level Maths certainly helps, but plenty of strong Physics students aren’t doing it — and if your child isn’t, we put extra focus on the maths skills the spec requires so they’re never held back by the calculations.
How do the online sessions actually work?
Sessions run via Google Classroom on a regular weekly slot. Students join from home using a laptop or tablet, work through content with the tutor and the other students in the group, and can ask questions throughout. Sessions are recorded so they can be revisited if needed.
Do you cover the required practicals?
Yes — the required practicals are heavily examined and we work through each one in detail, including the apparatus, methods, sources of error, and the experimental design points examiners reward.
What if my child misses a session?
Just let us know. Every session is recorded, so we can share the recording on request — meaning a missed week never sets your child back.
How does payment work?
A Level Physics sessions are £35 each, and payment is made half-termly so you’re never tied into a long contract. The first taster session is free.
Is the free taster session a real lesson?
Yes — it’s a full 60-minute session where your child joins the group, meets the tutor, and gets a genuine feel for how we teach. There’s no obligation to continue afterwards.
Can we join part-way through the year?
Of course — there’s no “wrong” time to start. We welcome students at any point in the academic year, whether you’re looking for steady support from September, joining us in the spring term, or coming on board for focused exam preparation closer to summer. Your tutor will quickly get a feel for where your child is and tailor sessions accordingly.
