Exactly what’s covered
Most students sit GCSE English Language and GCSE English Literature as separate qualifications. Here’s how we structure the teaching across both. For an overview of the GCSE English curriculum, you can also visit BBC Bitesize GCSE English.
Major UK exam boards
Our GCSE English tuition covers the major UK exam boards. Set texts and assessment structures vary, so let us know which board your child is sitting and we’ll match them with a tutor familiar with that specification.
Language and Literature
We support both GCSE English Language and GCSE English Literature. You can take one or both — sessions are tailored to whichever (or both) your child is sitting.
Year 10 and Year 11
Whether your child needs early support in Year 10 or focused exam preparation in Year 11, there’s a group that fits. Groups are organised by year and ability.
Both English GCSEs, every skill on the spec
How our GCSE English tuition sessions actually work
One hour, once a week, with the same tutor and the same small group. Here’s what we do with that time.
Diagnose the gaps
Your tutor finds out where the holes are — set texts your child finds tricky, the writing skills that need building, the techniques going unspotted in extracts.
Teach to the spec
Targeted GCSE English tuition across both Language and Literature — set texts, poetry, unseen analysis, creative writing — aligned to your child’s exam board.
Drill the exam
Past papers, mark schemes, exam technique. Essay structure, embedding quotations, hitting the assessment objectives — all get focused attention.
Practise together
Live writing and analysis as a group, with the tutor on hand. Mistakes get caught early, ideas get shared, and confidence builds session by session.
Why small groups change everything for GCSE English tuition
English is a discussion subject, and good GCSE English tuition reflects that. The best lessons happen when students wrestle with a text together — testing interpretations, hearing how someone else read the same passage, and discovering the technique they missed first time round.
In a class of thirty, those discussions belong to the loudest few. In a Bright Path group of five, every voice has space. Every essay gets read. And every student gets the kind of detailed, written feedback that turns a 5 into a 6, and a 6 into a 7.

Subject specialists, not generalists
Our English team are qualified UK-trained teachers with classroom experience — and a deep understanding of the GCSE English specifications. No newly-qualified teachers. No undergraduates moonlighting. Just teachers who’ve stood in front of GCSE English classes, marked the papers, and know exactly what your child needs to do to move up a grade.
What families say about our GCSE English lessons
My sincere thanks to you and all your colleagues who have been teaching my son in the run up to and during his GCSEs (2025). I believe the out-of-school tuition he has received has been invaluable. You have given him a massive boost, with your dedicated and structured online classes, and helped him to reach his potential.
My tutor has helped me a lot in my understanding. Not only am I able to go into more depth about topics, but also I am able to learn new information that I hadn’t learnt in school. This has helped my confidence when going to do my work or any test. Whether it’s with answering questions to make sure you get the maximum mark or just expanding and solidifying your knowledge — the difference can be seen by my teachers and by myself.
Having really struggled and not enjoying it, my tutor has been a major hand in the lead up to GCSEs. He has really helped to improve my confidence and knowledge throughout the sessions whilst developing my understanding. He also encourages me to try harder questions and never doubts my ability when answering them. Would highly recommend Bright Path Learning.
My daughter has been very happy with her sessions. The team are extremely down to earth and very approachable. All sessions have been engaging, challenging and helpful. The team have always accommodated any requests I’ve had for additional sessions in different subject areas. I can’t recommend them enough!

Common questions about GCSE English tuition
Do you cover both GCSE English Language and English Literature?
Yes — we cover both. Most students sit them as separate GCSEs, and our sessions can support one or both depending on what your child needs. Just let us know when you enquire.
Which exam boards do you teach for GCSE English?
We cover the major UK exam boards. Set texts and assessment structures vary, so let us know which board your child is sitting and we’ll tell you what’s running. For more information on how GCSEs are graded, see the official GOV.UK GCSE reform information.
What if my child doesn’t know their set texts yet?
That’s fine. We’ll start with the foundations — essay structure, close reading, embedding quotations, building arguments — and dovetail set-text support around your child’s school timetable as soon as we know what they’re studying.
How much does GCSE English tuition cost?
Our GCSE group sessions are £30 per student per 60-minute session, in groups of up to 5. Sessions are paid for half-termly in advance, so you know exactly what you’re committing to.
What if my child can’t make a session?
All sessions are recorded as standard. Recordings can be shared on request, so if your child misses a session they can catch up on what was covered. Our full attendance and refunds policy explains how we handle longer absences.
What platform do you use?
Sessions run through Google Classroom, which hosts the live video call and the shared materials and resources for each group. There’s nothing to install — your child just needs a Google account and the link we’ll send before each session.
