Two Weeks to Go: Panicked or Prepared? Is it Too Late?
The calendar doesn’t lie. We are now just a couple of weeks away from the first major GCSE and A-Level papers. For Year 11 and Year 13 students, this period can feel like a storm of high stakes and heavy “strife.”
Whether you’ve been revision-ready for months or you’re only just staring down your first stack of past papers, one question usually looms large: “Is it too late?”

The Tactical Game of Marginal Gains
Many students view exams as a 100m sprint where you’re either at the front or the back. In reality, exams are a tactical game of marginal gains.
Think of it this way: 15 minutes spent securing one specific concept in Biology or one formula in Maths might only feel like a “slight” improvement. But ten of those “slight” improvements across a week? That is the difference between a Grade 5 and a 6, or an A and an A*. Lots of small, tactical wins result in a massive change to your final results.
The Bright Path 3-Step Model: Your Plan of Attack
With time at a premium, you cannot afford “passive” revision. Highlighting isn’t enough. You need the three steps we advocate:
Summarise: Take a complex topic and boil it down to its core “need to know” facts.
Recall: Close the book. Can you repeat those facts from memory? (Use our “Brain Dump” technique mentioned in previous blogs!).
Apply: Take a real exam question and use that knowledge to answer it. This is where you learn the “habits” of the mark scheme.
Know Your Relationship with Revision
By now, you should know how you work best.
The Organised Doubter: You’ve followed the plan, but you’re starting to panic that you won’t cover it all. Tip: Focus on your “Amber” topics—the ones you almost know, but aren’t secure in. This is where the fastest marginal gains are made.
The “Tricky First 5” Student: You struggle to start, but once you’re in the flow, you can go for hours. Tip: Commit to just 5 minutes of a task. Once you overcome that initial friction, your momentum will take over.
Year 12: The Foundation for the Future
If you are in Year 12, don’t fall into the trap of thinking these “end of years” don’t matter. They carry huge significance for two reasons:
Predicted Grades: These exams underpin your university applications.
Year 13 Confidence: A-Level content is a building block. If your Year 12 foundations are shaky, Year 13 concepts will feel impossible. Secure the knowledge now, and you’ll walk into September with a massive head start.
Looking Ahead: The Summer Shift
Securing strong Year 12 results early opens up a vital window: Entrance Exams. Once your end-of-years are done, you can switch your focus to the UCAT. A reminder for 2026 applicants: Abstract Reasoning was removed from the test in 2025, meaning you can now dedicate more time to mastering Verbal, Decision, and Quantitative Reasoning.
Preparing early allows you to book and sit the exam in August, taking the pressure off your final year of A-Levels.
